Pre-Sale Harvest Festival Tickets Available Friday, Oct. 26
Our Harvest Festival will be on October 28 from 5 PM to 8 PM in the school gym. Pre-sale for Harvest Festival tickets will be sold in the lobby tomorrow morning from 8:30-9:30 AM. Grab them now so you don't have to wait in line on Sunday! Ticket bundles will be available to purchase. 100 tickets for $20, 40 tickets for $10, or 20 tickets for $5. There will be games, food and lots of fun! Don’t miss it!

Also a reminder that there is no school on Monday, November 5 or Tuesday, November 6, 2018. Parent Teacher Conferences on both days. You will be contacted by your child’s teacher to set up times for conferences.
BASE Charge Policy
Just a reminder of our BASE policy:
Students who are not picked up within 15 minutes after their dismissal time will be taken to BASE by their teacher and signed in:
Kinder: 2:50PM (Taken to BASE at 3:05PM)
1st/2nd: 3:00PM (Taken to BASE at 3:15PM)
3rd-6th: 3:15PM (Taken to BASE at 3:30PM)
7th-10th: 3:15PM (Enter BASE at 3:30PM)
Once students are signed in, there will be a charge for the entire hour. Any portion of an hour, for the first hour, is billed as an hour. After the first hour, it is billed by the quarter hour.

Important Library Information
It’s hard to believe we are almost to Q2This is just a reminder that starting October 30th we will begin assessing overdue fines at .10 per day. There is a 4 day grace period before fines are charged. We do our best to remind students to return their library materials in a timely manner. If you are wondering when a book is due, check the date due slip on the material that was checked out.
Paper notifications of overdue fines are sent home at the end of the quarter. Fines are payable in cash only at the office. Please put payment in an envelope with your child’s name on it and turn it into the office.
Lost books happen. If your student has lost a book at your home and you are still looking for it, please drop me an email (email@example.com) so that we can renew the book and you can avoid overdue charges until the book is found. If the book is truly lost, please let us know as soon as possible. Books tend to reappear before the school year is out so we don’t charge for lost books until June.

Mrs. Wendt’s classroom STEMS fundraiser starts on Friday, October 26. See’s Lollypops will be sold for a dollar each and the See’s Chocolate candy bars for two dollars each. We have Vanilla, Chocolate, Cafe Latte and Butterscotch Lollypops. Stop by the front office to purchase your See’s Candies and help support Mrs. Wendt’s classroom STEMS fundraiser!

RenWeb Will be Merging with Facts
Renweb will be merging with Facts. This will take place on Friday, October 12, 2018. When you log into your account it may say Facts instead of Renweb. Somethings will remain the same for a time. For instance, you’ll see the RenWeb name used in some places, but it will be phased out completely by the end of next year. We will be sending out new information to you as soon as we can.

Parking Lot Safety
We are working on some ideas to make drop off and pick up go smoothly. There have been some concerns that have come up at pick up and drop off times. Here are some important procedures to follow:
If you need to assist your child out of the car, please park your car first so as to lessen the traffic jam.
Drive slowly. There are parents and kids walking through the parking lot.
Continually remind your child to look both ways when walking in the parking lot and to not run after getting out of your car.
Refrain from checking your phone while driving through the parking lot or while waiting for the cars to move forward.

The 8th Grade Class Fundraiser
Greetings TVA families, I’m excited to announce the 8th Grade Class will be providing a recycling bin in the main lobby to collect any glass, plastic or cans to recycle with deposit. This fundraising event will occur all school year long. All we ask is that you leave your recycling in the bin. If you have any questions please contact Mrs. Werner and the 8th Grade Class.

Anytime throughout the school year if you go to Godfather’s Pizza across the street from our school they will donate 20% of your purchase to our 8th Grade Class. All you have to do is mention TVA. Thanks for your support!
If your child is sick..
The school policy is to informs TVA of conditions for which children are to be excluded from school until either recovered or diagnosed and cleared for inclusion by a physician. Unless otherwise indicated, students are excluded from attendance until they have been free of symptoms for 24 hours. Click here to see a letter from the Washington County Health Department. The conditions for exclusion are:
Chicken pox – excluded until at least six days after first vesicles appear or a doctor’s order, or all vesicles are dry (which ever occurs last).
Common cold – excessive coughing and nasal discharge.
Fever of 100 degrees or greater.
Fifth’s Disease – excluded with fever.
Flu - excluded with acute symptoms, fever chills.
Head lice – excluded until free of nits.
Impetigo – excluded until 48 hours of antibiotic therapy, and as long as sores drain.
Measles – return with doctor/health dept. permission.
Meningitis – return with doctor/health dept. permission.
Mumps – excluded until swelling disappears.
New onset of rash with concurrent or preceding fever.
Pink eye – excluded until eyes are clear with no discharge.
Ringworm – excluded until therapy is initiated.
Rubella – return with doctor/health dept. permission.
Scabies – excluded until treated.
Stiff neck or headache with fever
Strep throat – excluded until 48 hours after antibiotic therapy is started.
The Science Department is in Need of Bird Feeders
We are in need of 5-6 large covered platform and/or hopper type bird feeders that can be mounted on posts. We have lost several feeders due falling trees and bad weather the last couple of years out at our school bird feeding station. If you can build or donate feeders please see Mr. Kahler for details.

Home and School Association
We are having a clothing drive soon. Parents please go through your children’s closets. If you find items that no longer fit your child and are still in good shape, please bring them in. We will be collecting donation bags during our Week of Prayer during chapel. October 22-26. If you have any questions please contact Kristie Biggerstaff.
Water Testing Results
We recently tested our water for lead and we are happy to announce that all of our faucets and drinking fountains are well below the recommended guidelines for traces of lead. We want to ensure you that your child’s health is a high priority here at Tualatin Valley Academy.
Message from Mr. Chamberlain
Please make sure your child wears PE shoes (tennis shoes) to PE. Its very important for them to wear the appropriate shoes for participation and safety. In PE we do a lot of running, jumping, and are always on the move. We want to keep your kids safe and avoid any accidents.
Also, if your daughter wants to wear a dress/skirt to school, make sure they wear shorts under the dress/skirt for PE.
We need volunteers for the following events/tasks:
Pick up Scrip Orders from the Tigard School District Office on Thursdays once a month, contact the treasure, Danielle Kriegelstein at email@example.com
Organize school supplies that were donated to TVA by Walmart - one time project, contact the front office or Mrs. Orozco-Acosta at firstname.lastname@example.org
Shredding papers for the front office - on going all year
Updating the school marquee in front of the school once a week, contact the front office.
The refrigerator in the Elementary building needs to be cleaned out once a month.

TVA does not accept credit cards or debit cards as a form of payment. We only accept checks and money orders for payments over $25.00. We accept cash for payments of $25 or less.
Another option for payment is to authorize the school treasurer to automatically withdraw funds each month. By filling out the Authorization Agreement for Direct Payments (ACH Debits), you never have to worry about missing a payment or incurring late fees.
Parents with students in K - 10th grade, just a reminder that in order for you to be able to participate in any school field trips, coaching, and/or volunteer in your child’s classroom, you need to turn in the Oregon Conference Volunteer Information Form ASAP.
If you have a child in our preschool program, you need to complete the CBR form and mail it to the address on the form. When you receive your approval, please bring a copy to the office. This form is used to run a background check on adults that want to help out at school/go on field trips.
If you need a form, please stop by and pick up a form or call the office and we will be happy to mail you a form.
Walking and Biking to/from School
If you would like for your child to walk/bike to and from school, make sure you stop by the front office and complete a permission slip.
Parents need to complete one every school year.
Prearranged Absence Form
During the school year, if you are planning on going on vacation and your child will be absent from school for more than 1 day, please maker sure you complete a prearranged absence form 1 week before the event. This will give their teacher time to prepare the work your child will be missing during his/her absence.
If you need a form, you can pick one up at the front office or we will be happy to e-mail it to you.
