SERVICE Program

Our SERVICE program was created in an effort to improve communication between our school and our parents, as well as to increase parental involvement. Your help is not only needed and appreciated but is vital to our success as a school.

Through our SERVICE program, families share their time and talents with the school by completing SERVICE hours. SERVICE hours can be earned in a variety of ways. Almost anything you do that shows your involvement with TVA can be applied to your SERVICE commitment.

Parents with a desire to help in the classroom should contact the child’s teacher to find out the needs of the teacher. We encourage classroom help from parents and do so with the understanding that the teacher is responsible for the classroom and will therefore set the parameters for classroom help.

SERVICE Program Requirements:

Each TVA family with students in grades K-10 are responsible for completing a minimum of 20 SERVICE hours a year.
Single parent families and Preschool families are responsible for 10 SERVICE hours a year.
The SERVICE year extends from July 1st through the last day of school in June.

How do I get credit for my SERVICE hours?

Parents are responsible to enter the amount of time they have spent on SERVICE activities in the SERVICE program log located on the table outside the front office. On a bi-monthly basis you will receive a SERVICE statement with your billing invoice. This statement will show what hours are required, how many have been completed and how many hours remain. All unfulfilled SERVICE hours will be billed at a rate of $10 per hour on the last statement for the current school year.

Library Corner

girls-2814009_1920.jpg

It’s hard to believe the school year is almost half over! We’ve enjoyed our time with your student this year. It is our joy to watch them grow as readers.

Overdue fines began this quarter (Q2) and notices will be sent home the week of 1/23/18. Notices for elementary students will come home in homework or weekly folders. Junior high students will receive notices via USPS. Payment is due upon receipt. Please put the amount due in an envelope with your students name on it and turn it into the office. Any fines not paid will appear on your final statement with a $3 service fee.

Lost library materials happen. If your student has misplaced an item at home and you are still looking for it, please drop us an email so that we can renew the material and you can avoid overdue charges until the material is found. If the material is truly lost, please let us know as soon as possible so we can flag the material in our system. Fines for lost materials aren’t charged until the last statement of the school year. Lost material tends to turn up by the end of the school year so keep looking. There are two options for lost materials. You may pay the replacement fee as noted or you may purchase a replacement copy of the material on your own and turn it in to the office.

As always feel free to direct questions to me at library@tvja.org or drop in for a chat!

Christmas Program

Dear TVA parents:

Our Christmas Concert is on TUESDAY, January 23rd at 6:30 pm. I have chosen an earlier time to better accommodate the younger students, and the program will be shorter, closer to an hour and 15 minutes.

The theme is Ring the Christmas Bells, as most classes are ringing bells.

With that said, please have your students back to the school and in their classrooms no later than 6:15 pm.

The children are welcome to wear anything that would be considered festive and dressier than regular school clothes. Boys can wear slacks, button down shirts, sweaters, bowties, regular ties, etc. No sweaters or ties with flashing lights and no jeans, please. Girls can wear slacks, dresses, skirts and tops, or sweaters. Also, no jeans or flashing lights.

If you have specific questions please feel free to contact me at aboyer@tvja.org or call the school and leave me a message. I’ll be sure to get back to you.

Thank you! I’m looking forward to a great concert!

Christmas Program

golden-675345_1920.jpg

Christmas Program Postponed

golden-675345_1920.jpg

Dear TVA Families,

We unfortunately need to postpone the Christmas concert that was scheduled for next Tuesday, December 19th. We deeply apologize for this inconvenience.

Alice Boyer, our music teacher, fell down the stairs in her home on Tuesday and sustained some injuries and a mild concussion. Per doctor's orders, Mrs. Boyer is not to drive or work until the doctor has given the okay. We ask that you keep Mrs. Boyer in your prayers.

We are looking to reschedule the concert for January 23, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. We will continue to announce the new date when we return from Christmas Vacation.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

calendar-2763496_1920.jpg

Kindergarten Parents

I wanted to communicate a recent change in the calendar for January that affects only Kindergarten. There will be school on January 29 for your Kindergarten student. In previous years, there has not been school for current Kindergarten students on our Kindergarten Round Up day, which is a day for potential Kindergarten students to experience a day in school. The Round Up date was originally scheduled for January 29.

There WILL be school for our Kindergarten students on January 29. School will not be cancelled. Library News

book-2909331_1920.jpg

It’s hard to believe we are almost to Q2!

This is just a reminder that starting October 27th we’ll begin assessing overdue fines at $0.10 per day. There is a 4 day grace period before fines are charged. We do our best to remind students to return their library materials in a timely manner. If you are wondering when a book is due, check the date due slip on the material that was checked out.

Paper notifications of overdue fines are sent home at the end of the quarter. Fines are payable in cash only at the office. Please put payment in an envelope with your child’s name on it and turn it into the office.

Lost books happen. If your student has lost a book at your home and you are still looking for
it, please drop us an email so that we can renew the book and you can avoid overdue charges until the book is found. If the book is truly lost, please let us know as soon as possible. Books tend to reappear before the school year is out so we don’t charge for lost books until June.

Have a fantastic weekend and happy reading!

Mrs. Coggin

Our annual magazine sale has started! Please note that all magazine orders are due on Friday, September 22nd. Prizes will be passed out on Wednesday, September 27th in the school lobby in the morning.

Thank you for supporting our Home and School

Scrip

Did you know that just by shopping at your regular stores you can earn money for TVA? Through the Scrip Program if you purchase gift cards to your favorite stores the school can earn a percentage back. For example, if you spend $25 a week at Fred Meyer and you use a gift card purchased through Scrip, the cost to you would only be $25 a week, but TVA would earn $1 for that week. Multiply that by 52 weeks and the school earns $52 for the year just from one family. If we could get 100 familes to buy their groceries using the Scrip gift cards that would be over $5,000 a year of additional funding for TVA.

In the past money earned from the Scrip Program had been used to buy air conditioner unites for classrooms and the cafeteria and an upgrade to the Staff Work room. Proceeds from the Scrip program will continue to go to help with facility upgrades.

If you were not able to make it to the orientation, please stop by the office to pick up a Parent Information Folder or send me an email at principal@tvja.org and we will make sure it goes home with your child.

I look forward to getting to know you and working with you this year in preparing our children for their future.
