Get Ready For Our Walk -A-Thon on Friday, October 5, 2018!

On Friday, October 5, we will be having our 10th annual walk a thon! The walk a thon will take place on the track at TVA during school hours. We will be walking, jogging, running rain or shine. So please pray for sunshine! All proceeds will finance Home & School programs and projects! These programs and projects benefit students and families of all grades. Our goal is to raise $40,000.

Your help is needed! What can you do?

Encourage your child to contact family & friends to ask for pledges.

  • Help organize pledge forms in the morning & tally total laps after each class walks. This will be an on-going project throughout the day.

  • Be a lap counter. Adults will be responsible for putting “X” marks on the students bib after they complete each lap. We need at least four adults per class to manage the flow on the track.

  • Be a cheerleader out on the track.

Message from Mr. Chamberlain

Please make sure your child wears PE shoes (tennis shoes) to PE. Its very important for them to wear the appropriate shoes for participation and safety. In PE we do a lot of running, jumping, and are always on the move. We want to keep your kids safe and avoid any accidents.

Also, if your daughter wants to wear a dress/skirt to school, make sure they wear shorts under the dress/skirt for PE.

Thank you,

Summer Reading and BINGO Challenge

bingo-491228_1920.jpg

Hello parents!

The countdown to summer vacation has begun (at least it has in my house)! We were fortunate to have a representative from the Hillsboro Library talk with our students about the summer reading program at chapel last week. Summer reading is really important to help kids prevent the summer slide or brain drain that happens. I would love to see each and every TVA student’s name on the list from the library at the end of summer.

Here you will find several BINGO cards with different reading activities. I love these cards because they include reading activities that aren’t just limited to books. Some examples are map reading, poetry, reading and making something from a recipe, reading road signs, reading to a younger child and visiting the library. Remember, reading to your student counts too! Students that complete a BINGO card and return it to the TVA library when school starts will receive a special prize.

Happy Summer!

Mrs. Coggin

Please put payment in an envelope with your child’s name on it and turn it into the office.

If your student has a lost book, it may turn up during inventory. If that happens, I will contact you via email. All charges for lost books will appear on your June statement.

If you have any questions please email me at library@tvja.org.

Washington County Library Summer Reading Program:

A representative from WCCLS will be providing TVA students with an introduction to the Summer Reading Program on May 25th during chapel. I believe registration forms will be available and sent home with students that day. Official registration starts June 1st.

The summer calendar of events is up for the library and I encourage you to go to https://www.wccls.org and check it out. There is always a wide variety of activities and programs to take part in. A family favorite summer event of ours occurs Thursday from 4:30 – 5:45 pm at the Hillsboro Main Library. Kids have an opportunity to Read to the Dogs. The dogs are so gentle and they love lying next to the kids as they read. If you are interested in participating in this event, sign up early, the schedule fills up lightning fast.

Mrs. Coggin

Principal's Note graphic.jpg

Dear TVA Families,

I cannot believe that it is already April! We have some amazing events coming up and we ask for your prayers and support. Our annual Walk-a-thon is on Friday, April 13. Encourage your student to get pledges to raise money for some awesome programs that the Home & School Association is planning for next school year, in addition to so many events that they sponsor.

Also, our Week of Prayer is coming up on April 16-20 and this will be entirely led by students. Our focus is to guide our students in their roles as leaders in our school. Please keep them and our staff in your prayers as we plan for this blessed event.

If you have not yet taking a moment to complete out TVA Satisfaction Survey, we invite you to do so. We would love to hear your feedback. By taking this survey, you are helping us serve you better. It should take about 5-10 minutes to tell us about your experience with our school. We value and appreciate you and want to ensure we meet your expectations. If your survey is submitted by Monday, April 9, 2018 by midnight, your name will be entered into a drawing for a $100 Amazon gift card. We will have copies of the Survey Verification Form for the raffle available at the school's front desk. Thank you for your valuable feedback that will help us advance Christian education, our school, and our students who are the leaders of the next generation. You can find the survey on the announcements page on our school website: http://www.tualatinvalleyacademy.org

I invite you to come and chat with me. I will be having a Principal's Chat once a month in the Spynergy Room. This is an opportunity to come get to know me a little more, chat, and ask questions. The first Principal's Chat will be next Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at 6:30 p.m. before the Home and School Meeting. I hope to see you there!

Thank You and God Bless!

Christina Orozco-Acosta
Principal

2018 TVA Library Book Review Challenge

girls-2814009_1920 (2).jpg

One of the many fantastic things about TVA is that our school is full of readers! Open House is the perfect time to showcase the wide variety of books that our bookworms enjoy. Our Open House display this year will feature short book reviews written by students.

Copies of the book review form are attached to the Thursday Note and will also be sent home with students in their homework folders. Additional copies may also be found in the Library and in the Lobby and as an attachment to the Thursday Note. Parents are encouraged to assist their younger student in completing the form. If your student would like, they may attach a photo of themselves dressed as a character from the book or draw a scene or a representation of the book on a separate piece of paper. Our hope is to display the book that was reviewed next to the report, if space allows.

Each student grades Pre-K through 4th that participates will be able to pick one free book for their efforts. Book selections will be made after spring break during their class Library time. Each student grades 5th and 6th will be given a certificate to pick one free book (up to $5) from Scholastic Books in April. Students are welcome to fill out more than one book report, but only one free book per student will be allowed.

All Book Reviews are due by the end of school March 12th.

Feel free to contact me with any questions via email, library@tvja.org.

Thanks in advance for your help!
Mrs. Coggin
