Games * Art * Animation

Have fun while learning computer programming with Scratch!

Scratch is project of the Lifelong Kindergarten group at MIT Media Lab.

Using Scratch software, students will design their own interactive stories, make art and animations, and design simple games. They will learn to create and share Scratch projects, learn to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively. They will learn concepts of computational thinking: using data and variables, sequencing, conditionals, loops, events, and mathematical operations. While adding more challenges to their games, they will become familiar with computational practices: incremental programming, testing, debugging, modularizing, abstracting, reusing, and remixing.

Summer camp dates and times: June 18th – 22nd (Monday- Friday) , 10:45AM - 12:15PM

Grades: 3rd-5th

Play Reading BINGO, Win a Prize From Our Library!

bingo-491228_1920.jpg

Here you will find several BINGO cards with different reading activities. I love these cards because they include reading activities that aren’t just limited to books. Some examples are map reading, poetry, reading and making something from a recipe, reading road signs, reading to a younger child and visiting the library.

Remember, reading to your student counts too! Students that complete a BINGO card and return it to the TVA library when school starts will receive a special prize.

Happy Summer!

Washington County Library Summer Reading Program

picture-108539_1920.jpg

Summer reading is really important to help kids prevent the summer slide or brain drain that happens. Mrs. Coggin, our school librarian, would love to see each and every TVA student’s name on the list from the library at the end of summer.

A representative from WCCLS provided TVA students with an introduction to the Summer Reading Program on May 25th during chapel.

The summer calendar of events is up for the library and Mrs. Coggin encourages you to go to https://www.wccls.org and check it out. There is always a wide variety of activities and programs to take part in. One of Mrs. Coggin's family favorite summer events occurs Thursday from 4:30 – 5:45 pm at the Hillsboro Main Library. Kids have an opportunity to Read to the Dogs. The dogs are so gentle and they love lying next to the kids as they read. If you are interested in participating in this event, sign up early, the schedule fills up lightning fast.

Big Lake Youth Camp

Screen Shot 2018-06-10 at 9.54.32 AM.png

Building relationships, learning new skills, and having fun in a positive environment has been Big Lake’s goal since 1962. Each summer our carefully selected staff lead hundreds of young people from over 15 countries on a seven-day journey of adventure.

Life can be unpredictable. Culture and society changes, but Big Lake offers a constant in the lives of young people. This constant is the love of Jesus that permeates everything we do. Our Christ-centered program illustrates that faith in action is fun! Our campers continually report that the awesome excitement of learning new skills is only topped by our even more exciting Christian campfire programs and newly made friendships.

A week at Big Lake provides campers with the environment and the opportunity to gain better self-awareness, set and achieve goals, and have a blast. We offer friendship, encouragement, adventure, and enough fun to make memories for a lifetime.

Check out Big Lake's website for more information.
