Family Night and Silent Auction Fundraiser for Camp Fire Victims

Help us help our sister school, and have some fun and score some great Christmas gifts while you’re at it!

On November 8, 2018, the beautiful mountain town of Paradise was destroyed. The scope of destruction is unfathomable. At this time the death toll stands at 88 with 206 people still missing.

The fire that destroyed most of the town did not leave the school untouched. Thankfully, part of the school still stands. While insurance will pay for repairs and rebuilding, the town is uninhabitable. The infrastructure is gone. There are no utilities available. The school has been relocated temporarily to the Chico Seventh-day-Adventist church. They resumed classes there on November 26.

According to Paradise Adventist Academy’s principal, Monte Nystrom, they desperately need tuition assistance. Many of the families not only lost their homes, but they also lost their places of work along with their income. TVA will be conducting a silent auction to raise some tuition relief for the families of Paradise Adventist Academy. All of the funds gathered at this event will go to PAA’s tuition assistance fund.

We are planning a fun evening with a family-friendly movie in the gym. Snacks and drinks will be sold to raise funds for this project. The silent auction will be in the Jr. High/High School building. Each class will be contributing a basket to the auction with fun and tasty items. There will also be gift cards to restaurants, spas, and other services. Be on the lookout for great experiences too, like paint nights, concert tickets, sporting event tickets, etc. All of these make great Christmas gifts. What could be better than doing your Christmas shopping and supporting a worthy cause? Donations will be gratefully accepted and are tax-deductible (receipts will be provided).

Please help us support our sister school, Paradise Adventist Academy. Come to our fundraiser and bring your friends and family.

If you have any items, gift cards, event tickets, or services that you would like to donate to this cause (also tax-deductible), please contact Holly Garbi at

Play Reading BINGO, Win a Prize From Our Library!

Here you will find several BINGO cards with different reading activities. I love these cards because they include reading activities that aren’t just limited to books. Some examples are map reading, poetry, reading and making something from a recipe, reading road signs, reading to a younger child and visiting the library.

Remember, reading to your student counts too! Students that complete a BINGO card and return it to the TVA library when school starts will receive a special prize.

Happy Summer!

Mrs. Coggin

Washington County Library Summer Reading Program

Summer reading is really important to help kids prevent the summer slide or brain drain that happens. Mrs. Coggin, our school librarian, would love to see each and every TVA student’s name on the list from the library at the end of summer.

A representative from WCCLS provided TVA students with an introduction to the Summer Reading Program on May 25th during chapel.

The summer calendar of events is up for the library and Mrs. Coggin encourages you to go to and check it out. There is always a wide variety of activities and programs to take part in. One of Mrs. Coggin's family favorite summer events occurs Thursday from 4:30 – 5:45 pm at the Hillsboro Main Library. Kids have an opportunity to Read to the Dogs. The dogs are so gentle and they love lying next to the kids as they read. If you are interested in participating in this event, sign up early, the schedule fills up lightning fast.

Big Lake Youth Camp

Screen Shot 2018-06-10 at 9.54.32 AM.png

Building relationships, learning new skills, and having fun in a positive environment has been Big Lake’s goal since 1962. Each summer our carefully selected staff lead hundreds of young people from over 15 countries on a seven-day journey of adventure.

Life can be unpredictable. Culture and society changes, but Big Lake offers a constant in the lives of young people. This constant is the love of Jesus that permeates everything we do. Our Christ-centered program illustrates that faith in action is fun! Our campers continually report that the awesome excitement of learning new skills is only topped by our even more exciting Christian campfire programs and newly made friendships.

A week at Big Lake provides campers with the environment and the opportunity to gain better self-awareness, set and achieve goals, and have a blast. We offer friendship, encouragement, adventure, and enough fun to make memories for a lifetime.

Check out Big Lake's website for more information.
