Tualatin Valley Academy has quite a history with handbells. We had a world-renowned handbell choir, Ring of Fire, for many years. For the past 2 years, Mr. Blackburn, a member of Ring of Fire, has been working on bringing the handbell program back to TVA. He is anticipating having both beginner and intermediate bell choirs next school year if there is enough interest.
This summer Mr. Blackburn would like to offer a handbell class for students entering 5th grade through high school. Classes would take place on Sunday evenings from 4pm - 6pm, and students would be given access to a computer game he has written specifically for TVA Bells to practice between classes. The class will focus not only on handbell ringing, but music theory and sight reading as well.
Handbells are a team “sport” and do not work if missing members, however, arrangements can be made if a student must miss a class.
The cost will be $60 per student for 6 weeks of classes. Funds raised will be put directly back into the handbell program for things like purchasing new equipment and maintaining the bells.
